I have a new least favorite blood tech.
This tech? This tech doesn't do things right. He brought me blankets, then asked if I wanted a pillow, put the blankets on my snack-and-milk table, got a pillow, put it on my lap, discovered that the blankets have to go there, and finally put the blankets on me... wrong. He didn't listen to me when I said I was chilly and seriously, there are many things that can go wrong with a blood donation but most of mine are pretty easy when I am not shivering.
It's another situation where I could probably make the relationship work and then he'd have a forgiving buffer, but I am surprisingly unwilling to teach him exactly how I like things done when he's worked there for a couple months and 'how I like things' is 'how everyone else does them'. I do not want him to hold a gauze pad over the insertion point until the bleeding has slowed; I want him to grab a velcro tourniquet. I do not want the 'skin'-tone bandage; I want the brightest freaking colors you can get me (another tech offered to give me a new bandage when I commented in the refreshment area. Sigh.) Keep me well-stocked with milk and string cheese, put them where I can reach them, and when I want another blanket, get me another blanket.
And write down that I had a travel deferral. I give you this information so you can use it.
Anyway. He didn't tell me exactly what I was giving, but I think I did a red cell, platelet, plasma donation. I am much more wiped than usual. I am a much better platelet factory than I am a source of red cells.
The promotional period is over, too; I have two years' points to cash in once I figure out how many I have. No idea what I'll buy with them.
